It was opened in 1991, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the outstanding Russian writer Sergey Aksakov (1791–1825). The childhood of the author of such pieces of literature as «Notes of a Hunter», «Family Chronicle», «Childhood of Bagrov, the grandson», «Scarlet Flower» and others have passed in this house. The house was built in the middle of the XVIII century. It was made of the Ural larch and belonged to N.F. Zubov, the grandfather of the writer. Till now the enfilade structure of the rooms is preserved. The museum consists of a memorial and literary sections, which have portraits, documents, lifetime editions of works of the writer, household items related to the history of Ufa.
The museum became a living and dynamic center of the Orthodox culture. The International Aksakov holidays are organized here annually in late September.
