This is the first specialized academic museum of such type in the Urals and the Volga region. It was opened in 1980. It is located in an old building – mansion of E.A. Ponosova-Mollo (see «Walks in Ufa»). The rich collection of items of Stone Age, Bronze Age, Early Iron Age, the medieval culture of the nomads of the Southern Urals can be found here. The collection of gold and silver objects and ornaments, made by Persian masters of Achemenid epoch (Persian kings of VI–IV BC) is of particular interest. In the entrance hall there is the Sterlitamak meteorite (weight – 315 kg), named after the place of its fall on May the 20th, 1990. The museum brightly and vividly displays the history and culture of ancient and modern peoples of Eurasia, their centuries-old contacts in the Ural – Volga region.
