History
The park was created in 1903 on the site of a military camp as a People’s Sobriety Guardianship Park. The initiator of its opening was the police chief. The Ufa council allocated a place in the city center and vice governor planted the first tree here. On weekends an orchestra played in the park, theatre performances, public book readings and lotteries were arranged.
All of this was done to distract the public from excessive drinking.
After the Revolution of 1905 the park was named «Park Yakutova» after the revolutionist, the first chairman of Ufa City Council of Workers’ Deputies, Ivan Yakutov (1868–1907). In the Soviet times, the park was expanded almost twice. In 1952 at the entrance the bust of Ivan Yakutov was installed (sculptor T.M. Nechaeva, architect. N. Ozernaya), now it’s located in the park. In the center of the park there is the Eternal Flame in honor of participants of the Civil War. The main entrance to the park was built in 1952 (architects V.I. Utkin, G.M. Garipov).
