This is an outstanding monument of architecture of the beginning of the XXth century built in the modern style. It was built in 1907 (according to other information in 1912) on the order of the merchants Pavel Kosterin and S.A. Chernikov (architect A.A. Sherbachev) for guest merchant accommodation. It is noticed by its modeled masks and decorated balconies. Its style is the merchant modern, a little bit extravagant. The interior is distinguished for its rich decoration: the modeled rosettes and plafonds, cast-iron staircases with laced contours which paces are decorated with the colorful ceramic tile, the 3 meter oak doors. The reconstructions didn’t influence the external appearance of the building. In the years of the Civil War there was the headquarters of the White Guard general Mikhail Khanzhin, then – the political department of the 25th Chapaev’s division, later – different state institutions, since 1997 – the Customs House of Bashkortostan.
