Initially it consisted of two streets: Bazilevskogo (Bazilevskaya) and Lazaretnaya. In the beginning of the XX century these streets were connected and renamed as Tsentralnaya, since 1918 it was called Zentsova, and starting from 1937 – Lenina.
All the streets of the historical centre of the city, big and small, lead to Lenin street. This is a transport artery of the southern part of the city, the business centre. Despite of the day hustle, the street and the adjacent blocks are attractive for slow walks. Many shops, cafes and squares are favorite meeting places for the Ufa residents and the guests of the city. The very beginning of the street, the part from Zaki Validi Street to Pushkina Street, is a pedestrian zone. Here are Zaki Validi National library and one of the buildings of the Bashkir Medical University. The pedestrian zone is connected with Lenin’s park with a pedestrian subway, what makes this area popular for walks. On this street one can see many memorial boards with the prominent names of the public figures, scientists, actors and artists.
Near the Central market, on the intersection with Ibragimov Avenue, there is the most modern sport arena in Ufa – «Ufa-Arena» (see the Sport Complexes). The hockey club «Salavat Yulayev» is training and playing here. In 2008 it became the champion of Russia. The arena is always full in the days of games and the winning shouts of the fans are heard in every place of the district.
The street is interesting up to the intersection with Ibragimov Avenue, then it goes downward to the Railway Station Building.
